oin us as we explore three countries in the heart of central Europe: Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. This set of central European countries constitutes some of the up and coming economies of Europe. They also are home to some amazing history, cultures and scenery.
Our tour begins in Poland and the beautiful city of Krakow. You’ll have time to explore the historic center of Krakow before we join our local Polish chef and try our hand at making (and eating) a three-course tradition Polish meal. Our time in Krakow will also include a visit to Oskar Schindler’s Factory and the area of Krakow that became the Jewish Ghetto during WWII.
While in Krakow we will have the opportunity to visit the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum. We have arranged for a special, private presentation by Museum staff to augment our experience and understanding of different aspects of the Auschwitz-Birkenau sites.
As we leave Krakow, we will visit the extensive the Wieliczka Salt Mine. Here we will descend the stairs to see the extensive salt mine works and church carved out of salt. After the mine, we travel through the beautiful countryside of southern Poland as we head toward the Tatra Mountain region. Our next stop will have us in the mountain town of Zakopane at the foot of the beautiful Tatra Mountains. We’ll spend some time relaxing and enjoying the rustic culture and natural beauty of this area.
The next stage takes us from Poland into Slovakia. We’ll have a chance to visit the UNESCO World Heritage areas of Kieżmark, Levoca, Spiska Kapitula and Spis Castle. We will enjoy the Slovakian countryside as we travel toward Hungary and it’s capital city of Budapest.
We arrive in Budapest and spend the last few days of our journey here in this amazing European city. We will have time to explore the many of the sites and districts in the city and walk along the Danube River. We will also venture up to the Danube Bend and visit the historic towns of Ezstergom, Visegrad and Szentendre. One of our days in Hungary will be spent on the Puszta or Great Hungarian Plain. The Puszta is covered with large ranches where Magyar cowboys demonstrate their equestrian skills. Our final full day in Budapest will include a concert and evening dinner cruise on the Danube.
